Music off the Record
Music off the Record
Enhance your concert experience!
Have you ever read the program notes and had more questions than answers? Have you always wanted to know more about music history and theory without going back to school? Then Music off the Record is the place you want to be!
Music off the Record is our signature audience engagement program, offered free to the public. These enlightening and informal talks are an informative and engaging way to learn about the music on our programs and gain valuable insight into what you will hear at each upcoming concert. Dr. Ken Owen will take you through music theory, guided listening, and the program's historical, cultural, and social context. His insights will enrich your enjoyment of a familiar piece and guide your introduction to something you may never have heard before. The result? A heightened enjoyment and understanding of the entire concert!
This season, we are excited to announce that in partnership with Pierce College Puyallup, we will be recording the talks and making them available for online viewing! Use the links below to watch Ken discuss our February concert series, Dvorak & Tchaikovsky. Check back here in the weeks leading up to each concert to find videos about this season's composers and pieces!

Kenneth Owen is a professor of music at Pierce College Puyallup where he conducts the choirs and teaches music theory and music appreciation. Dr. Owen holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Utah; a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from Brigham Young University; and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in conducting from Arizona State University
